Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness. - Matthew 7:21-23
Check out last Sunday’s sermon here.
“What will you say on ‘that day’ to Jesus? What will He say to you?” Pastor Mike shared how critical, how eternal the answer to that question is.
‘That day’ is final. ‘That day’ is when we stand before Jesus the Judge. ‘That day’ is coming for everyone, no exceptions.
One life, one death, judgment. Jesus offers no do-overs on ‘that day’.
On That Day many will say…
Many say all the right words. But well-spoken words, theology of the Divine, with eloquence and grace, cannot give life. One may cry, “Lord, Lord” with all her might, but Jesus can never be fooled.
“Knowing stuff about Jesus cannot make us right with God.” -Pastor Mike
Many may tremble now. Trembling, pondering God’s power, is wise to feel, for God is to be feared. However, feelings are fickle as falling snowflakes on sun-warmed sidewalks. They come and go in a moment. They can be altered by your body’s chemicals. Don’t hope in feelings; they cannot earn grace.
Many compile laundry lists of good deeds. However, even a list of feats in Christ’s name, cannot satisfy the wrath of God. When compared to Christ’s exclusive offer of saving grace, these works fall far from bridging the gulf between man and the Holy One. These are especially tricky, for we are called to be a people of good works. But, there is a kind of ‘working’ that is not blessed by Christ*.
While Today is Still Today
The greatest blessing for today is that today is today. While today is today and not ‘that day,’ Jesus calls out, “Do my Father’s will!” The Father desires you to believe in His Son. So today, Jesus offers hope, joy, life, and peace.
Today, where is my hope, my confidence?
Jesus the Judge will never be fooled by those feeble efforts.
Today is The Day of Salvation
“Faith always follows.” -Pastor Mike
Today, do the Father’s will. Put your hope in Jesus and live each day by faith. Today, live by faith in the Son of God. He loved you and gave Himself for you. Follow Him, day after day. ‘That day’ is coming. Who will stand? Who will hear Christ’s call, “Come into my Father’s joy!” Those who live by faith in His amazing grace.
*Only the work which Christ redeems is of any value (2 Thessalonians 1:11).
