“...my little children, for whom I am again in the anguish of childbirth until Christ is formed in you! (Galatians 4:19)

“We believe in the eternal security of all believers.” (Taken from Ridgeview’s Doctrinal Statement)

Then how should we understand Paul’s words to the Galatians (4:19)? How can Paul say that he desires Christ to be formed in them? Don’t they already have Christ? Did they not receive the Spirit (Gal 3:1-5), the Spirit of the Son who enters their hearts, so they can truly call God “Father!” (Gal 4:7)? Are they not brothers and sisters in Christ (Gal 1:2)? Have they not been delivered by Christ (Gal 1:4)?

The following are several reasons why we believe that God never labors in vain over those He saves.

Held Forever

If you repent and believe in the Gospel of Jesus, you are held secure forever…

  • Because Jesus the Son is “Good Shepherd” who gives you an eternal life that no one will ever take from Him (John 10:28).
  • Because God the Father is greater than all and holds you in His hand forever (John 10:29).
  • Because the Father and the Son send the Spirit to securely seal you forever (Eph 1:13-14, 4:30).
  • Because Jesus’ salvation is so powerful that nothing in all creation will be able to separate you from the love of God in Jesus (Romans 8:28-39).
  • Because God will finish the work He began in you (Phil 1:6).
  • Because God (alone!) is able to keep you from falling away (Jude 24).

So, take courage today, friend. Hold fast to your Savior who holds fast to you.
